Interesting.

I actually consider ILH to be a small exchange, when compared to something like Traffic Swarm.

Like, when do they stop becoming a small exchange?

I dunno, I guess it depends on how active the exchange is.

Good point Scott.

I voted 10k cos that seems to be the level where the exchange takes on more of a life of it's own.

Still, I've said it often enough. Most owners think waaaaaaaaaaay too small.

TE owners have a duty to their members to constantly increase their advertiser base and expand their business to it's fullest possible potential.

Like Jon, I won't be happy until Traffic-Splash is larger than Traffic Swarm and even then, I'll wanna keep growing to make sure Splash stays larger than Swarm, FET, ILH, Dragonsurf, Bunnies and any others that ain't content with mediocrity.

I have to agree with you there Paul. There are now what three billion... three billion people on the internet now? ALL the traffic exchanges are small at this point. You guys should be thinking of targets in the millions, not in the tens or even hundreds of thousands. Just think of the marketplaces the TE's would be if you had memberships of a few million?

Absolutely mind boggling.

Even Jon could afford to pay commissions at that point

Do traffic exchanges have any data like conversion rates? Correct me if I am wrong, but is not a traffic exchange a manifestation of movement for its own sake rather than for commerce? Do you just hope for the occaisional sale along the way?

so a small exchange is between 2000-10000, a medium exchange is 10000-100000, and a big exchange is 100000-300000. I am catching up fast now better watch out. I also did this survey to see where I should be investing my time and my splash which is not working in medium to big exchange. the banners and the main site is but not the splash the splash does great in small exchanges. also because the te's with 1000's of members (small or little) have ok traffic flow rather than the ones with 100's that suck at traffic flow which are telling me that my account is inactive even though I still have 100's of credits.

Are you serious? Yes, we're all just rotating sites all day for its own sake; no, we're not trying to make any money... :beathead:

Yes, it's true. There are definitely a lot of people out there who are just sitting there screwing around hoping for the occasional sale along the way -- and what a surprise it is that they aren't the ones who actually make money. I think that's the biggest mistake people who don't understand the traffic exchanges make. They just throw up a generic URL without any creative material or marketing plan, and then, when they don't get results, they say, "traffic exchanges don't work."

Would you just buy advertising time on a TV station and then just throw up a video of you holding up your product and humming? Of course not. You would come up with an attractive ad that makes people interested in your product. Not all ads are equal. If you want to get results, the creative materials you use have to be able to attract attention and interest your audience, and that's neither the responsibility nor the business purpose of the advertising medium.

If you go buy an ad in a newspaper or on a TV station, they're not going to give you a magic conversion rate number. ("14% of the people who see your ad in our newspaper will buy your product.") That can't just be magically measured. So that's why they give you related data ("Our newspaper has a paid circulation of 140,000.") and you make decisions by taking that data along with your own results and the data other people (businesses that specialize in marketing consultation) have gathered.

It's just like that for traffic exchanges... and there are businesses out there that will be glad to help you produce better creative material, and there are businesses out there that will be glad to help you track your advertising results or share information about their own experiences with you, and I will be glad to refer you to some such businesses if you're interested.

Very well said Dan... I wanted to write that post earlier today,
so thanks for doing it so I can get back to mindlessly rotating
sites in hope of an occasional sale :spit:

Oh they count. They are the king on top of the hill and something every owner should strive for.
