My latest issue of HEN had an article which should tick off quite a few owners. But it has to be brought up. Are there too many traffic exchanges out there?

Hi Jon

I voted No. You need competition to ensure that owners keep on top of there game and give their customers the service they deserve. :)

If an exchange does not come up to snuff then it falls by the wayside. Customers soon get to know who is running there business correctly.

I voted Yes - but.. yes there is a but...

I think there are too many exchanges but only because most of them
are rubbish - I think there's room for (and we probably need) a lot
more professionally run exchanges.

Check out my comment in HEN for more details

There is a shortage of well managed traffic exchanges. Getting to be too many open them, grab the OTO money, and move onto something new. Too many that are fully automated by owners who care nothing of customer service and no communication with their members.........and........ :D

I agree... there are just way too many poorly run traffic exchanges out there. It's a shame that there are some traffic exchanges that are designed to benefit the owner more than the folks they were should be designed to serve "the users". Hopefully, caring owners and the development of "well managed" exchanges, will weed out most of the bad exchanges (and their owners). If not the bad ones will eventually choke out the good ones. Unfortunate... but true!

I voted Yes. Yes, there are too many exchanges, or zombie exchanges, a few searches on the default text on some exchanges reveal how many they are. However, on the other hand, there is room for good and well managed exchanges.

I voted yes.

But I'm not as concerned about the OTO cash grab -type of TEs than those hundreds and hundreds of TEs that will never grab any cash

I voted yes too. I'm glad to see you've changed your mind on the serial exchange openings. The cookie cutter exchanges aren't too pleasing either. Not because there is something wrong with them but just because it dilutes the market but doesn't really add to it. That is the thing though. With the cost barrier to entry being so low that problem will persist and that will affect all the exchanges because their customers will be duped into joining these 800 member sites and then be disappointed.

If TE owners instead spent their money on motivating their members instead of creating a different colored copy of their current exchange they probably wouldn't have a dying entity on their hands

Franscisca at hit2hit is a great example. She's at the top of the rankings at many of the TE lists and yet she is still running a contest currently that is handing out hundreds of dollars in referral bonuses. Another smart thing she does is send out regular update mails to her members. That keeps them awake and aware of the exchange.

I voted no because (and i'll probably get some bad responses to this) the more 'crap' exchanges that come out make my exchange look ultimate in comparison. It's like letting people give my exchange a better reputation.

I'm not sure if it is helping the industry or not. It may be giving TE's a bad rep all together, or it may be glorifying the good exchanges. I can't make my mind up yet. Perhaps it's split right down the middle.

There's too many exchanges only because how many don't deliver on their 'promises'. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more with owners that actually understand and care about the business they're jumping into. So I said no.

I voted "no" but for a different reason--

Just as you can never be too rich or too thin,
so there is no such thing as too much traffic;
therefore, there is no such thing as too many traffic exchanges.

Finding the best ones for you is simply a matter of trial and error.

What about all the potential stars out there who by bad luck join three bad traffic exchanges in a row and decide the whole industry is bunk? They may go on to be marketing stars and for the rest of their careers not only could they hold back a ton of advertising revenue from the TEs but they could also build a following of thousands or tens of thousands to whom they bad mouth the industry.

The TEs struggled with that kind of thing for years until they picked up some quality owners and some marketing traction a few years ago. A few bad exchanges could still turn away some good people.

Dont you Jon owe 3-4-5 exchanges? You attack Kenneth because he have started 4 exchanges that are 100% the same, dont see any diffrence between the exchanges you owe. Why are you more qualified to run many exchanges then others? There are not to many exchanges, only to many exchange owners that dont like they get competitions. The small exchanges have the same rights to be online as the" Big" exchanges"

Dont give up exchange owners, the "Big Guys" dont owe the traffic exchange industry, they just want you in the mud.

Kjell
