I am doing some research for a book I am writing which I hope will help the industry. It would be nice to here both sides meaning the Pros and Cons of this issue. I appreciate your input.

I have stayed out of this argument. I still have a bad taste in my mouth for 'hovering.' Back in the 90's, people would put those stupid things on their web page and as your cursor incidentally passed over something, zap, you get sent to another web site. I thought this went out with that annoying blink tag.

The fact that hover surf has not taken off, I would guess the users have spoken. If the biggies in the business start hovering, (logiscape, Jon O, Traffic Swarm, etc) I would imagine it would be an avalanche.

But since this has not happened, I do not think it ever will.
Clicking on the internet is a natural act.

How does it make you feel when a program has a hover surf only. Is it enough to influence your decision to opt out? Thank you all for your Votes!

I totally agree with the above statement.

Yes it is, I can't surf effectively in tabs with both hover and click only exchanges, therefore I don't like hover only surfing. I surf them very infrequently if at all.

To answer your question, I do not belong to any TEs that
have hover surf. I was tempted, but there are too many
TEs that do not have it and are top notch. No room,
so to speak. If everyone jumped on it, like the 10 second
surf, I would grudgingly hover.

I tried a few, got poor results. Seems to me that, in general, those who surf for enjoyment will use it. Nothing wrong with that, we all know it happens, and is increasing since chats became popular.

But, again a generalisation, those who surf as a business don't use them.

I don't optout though for market research reasons. I need to be on top of what's happening out there, it kinda helps :)

Looks like a concensus here. I really don't like hovering - it just isn't a natural way to navigate when every other site on the net relies on clicking.

This is awesome feedback I am so grateful to you all. If an exchange had both hover and click (like the AMCS scripts) would that alter your opinion of the program? I mean would you be hesitant to join? What exactly is it about hovering that turns a program sour?

Here's another way to look at it.
Are people like me?

They don't hover because their favorites are not
hovers. Or, do they just dislike hovering?
I honestly have never tried it.

If I Love Hits or Traffic Splash suddenly decided to
hover (Yes, Paul, this is purely hypothetical),
would people suddenly be in love with it?

Like I said, I think hovering is unnatural and would
only do it if a big name TE that was on my daily
list decided to hover.

Doesn't lords of traffic use hover?
I almost joined, as many here think it's a great exchange.
But, no time!

Billymac, perhaps your results here on NMF will be skewed.
The consensus here is probably against hovering.
But how about the users of LOT?

I remember when this hovering hit. I thought I was doomed
to hover. Luckily, the top TEs I use did not fall for it.
I assume it will always just be a niche.

I puke when I hear it called 'hover technology.' There's
nothing techy about it. Just a simple script that has been
around since the first internet ice age. A script, as I pointed
out, that was used and abused.

I don't like calling out established TEs, so if anyone's exchange
uses it, more power to you!

Well Stephen, you make a good argument here. This may be a biased arena. My first script was one of the first 8 to have hover surfing, and when I switched to hover I won't lie I lost a lot of members. Then after the word got out that I had it I started to get a lot of sign ups, because it was new. When I switched to another script the LAST THING I wanted was a ventrino or LJ script. (sorry if anyone else likes them. I am just sick of them personally.) I chose AMCS because of the duo surf feature. This gives everyone what they want. Click for clickers and hover for the people who like hovering. Listening to these responses posted here makes me feel like I made a wise choice in the end. BUT you can't please everyone.

My main purpose for this thread was to feel out what most people think about the differences between the two. So far, as I have stated this is a biased arena, which leaves my research unresolved.

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to where to go next to get the data I need?

Well, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
Is there a way to tell if more people hover or click?
Poll your members. Seems to me you think that
hovering is intriguing, if not interesting.
If hovering makes you unique, go for it. You may
do well, however, by just marketing it on other
hover exchanges. Or, on the flip side, tempt others
to try the hover someway.

However, like I said, hovering is unnatural for me.
You may need to do the research yourself. Hover
surf your exchange, and 4 other clicking ones at the
same time. Is it awkward? Is it a pain to click one, then
hover the next and vice versa? If you want the biggest
audience, you need to make it friendly for the masses.
Of course, you say it is optional.

Another thought. You may need to emphasize the hover
while advertising on hover exchanges, but ignore this
feature when advertising on clickers. People tend to
stay in their comfort zone.

I think the combination of surfing both hover and click sites is awkward. I end up hovering where I'm supposed to click or vice versa.

I also feel a loss of control on the hover sites....too many times I accidentally moved my mouse too fast, or over the wrong image or something. After trying it for awhile, I much prefer clicking.

Would the option of having both available deter me? No...as long as I still have the option to click.
