So they don't like TEs - but I don't advertise them on TEs
I link to them from my friggin members areas and ebooks.

Guess the hundreds of people I have put in their system
aren't good enough - because I own a "so called" automated
traffic generating service aka. manual traffic exchange

WTF :wtf:

Dear Soren Jordansen,

massively large quantities of traffic that generate nothing more
than extra load on our web servers and additional costs. Please
see that your affiliate link is disconnected from this traffic

Well that right there and the recent price changes seem to be good enough reason for not promoting them.

I love there service, and will continue to use them, but that is another hit against reccomending them to newer users.

Seeing that the only place I promote this is via my newsletters and tutorials, all those paying customers that it generates from them is....well....untargetted.

I'm curious why they care if an email is making you money or not. You are paying them for a service of email storage and sending based on THEIR criteria.

What does it matter how much you make off selling to YOUR list? As long as you pay your bill every month based off your membership list level. Since when has the price of sending an email gone up based on whether or not they are a buying email address?

It's bogus. I'm sorry but there must have been a massive 'restructure' that took place in that company. That's two moves this week that I cannot understand at all.

This was THE company, and I was very loyal to them. But this last remark, really hurt my opinion of them.

What a shame.

And yeah, the price of emailing did not go up. Sorry, I can't see it.

My take on this whole thing is that it's an automated message. They're trying to cut down on useless hits to their site and have parsed their logs. Any referring pages that are based on a Traffic Exchange domain has or will receive this automated message.

In Soren's case they can't even see the content of the page that is sending the referrals BUT since it's on DragonSurf.biz, a known Traffic Exchange, it's assumed the hits coming from there are automated.

I think a couple of calls or emails to Tom are in order

Well I disagree with that but it's another discussion... Oh well I can't help it:

* The major reason for the price jump is the new *very* advanced
email analytics tools they have integrated - as an existing member
you can chose not to use them and stay on the normal plan. I think
I will grab the upgraded version, I'm sure it will be worth it:
Read about the new features here.

* With Aweber you have always paid per subsriber, used to jump
for every 10.000

* The cost sending emails is the same - however the cost of maintaning
a good delivery rate is increasing. They have to jump through more
hoops and spend more time (per subsriber) - so yes the cost has
gone up.

However that has nothing to do with this lame treatment of good
affiliates - in case you can't tell, that really pissed me off

The exact same thing happened to me a little over a month ago with the same letter..
I spent at least 45 minutes arguing on the phone with them in favor or traffic exchanges
after they threatened to cancel me unless I pull all promos out of the TEs by 5PM
the day that I called.
Shit, if I can afford the bandwidth to advertise in TEs, why can't they?

Ryan - but the kicker for me is that the page they are talking about is my tutorial page. It's not in rotation, it's read by people who join ILH and want to learn more. I mean, it's a basic IM tutorial that goes over tracking, and building a list. What could be more targetted than that??

Seems like a business move to me.

Sure we all liked it, but it is in their company's best interest for their profits.
I also feel the emails you guys received were automated (it's definitely a template), so it was probably batchsent.
Whether or not they will continue allowing you guys to use their service, I don't know.

Well Aweber isn't the only one this week to show dislike for traffic exchanges.

Commission River (a.k.a. Cognigen) sent the following in their newsletter:
Quote:
"Likewise, we are blocking all traffic exchanges that have been beating up our servers with non-stop junk traffic. If you belong to a traffic exchange, please save your money"

Wonder how many affiliates have been placed into their programs from TEs?

Well the solution for AWeber is very simple...

1) Make the Home Page break frames, so it
won't be rotated on exchanges

2) Let me continue to recommend them by
having banners and links in my members area,
ebooks, tutorials etc.

:drunk:

*Edit* wow on the Cognigen thing - not what
you would expect from a company founded by
Kevin Anderson.

Ahhhh the ever growing task to make people aware that traffic exchange traffic is not un-targetted. Unreal.

Ignorance.

See that really irks me.

In the message, it's talking about 'automated traffic'.

So Jon Atwood tried to explain this to 'Andy' at their live chat support. Andy refused to listen to reason and claimed they knew exactly how untargeted and automated traffic exchanges are. He wouldn't budge and wouldn't listen to Jon try to explain it.

Alas....We are back to square one with educating the 'other side' of internet marketing. And it's a shame because I know the majority of the traffic exchange owners in this forum recommend aWeber. Wow.

Here's the transcript from my very "interesting" chat with said Aweber support tech...

Quote:
Jon Atwood: I'm very surprised by some of the automated messages you're sending to some of your affiliates essentially killing their affiliate link on a targeted page Welcome Jon Atwood! Please hold while we contact a representative. If a representative does not respond in a few seconds, then he/she is not available at this time.

You are now speaking with Andy Kostrzewski of AWeber Customer Solutions.

Andy Kostrzewski: Welcome to Live Support.

Jon Atwood: Hi Andy

Andy Kostrzewski: where are you seeing this can you be more specific?

Jon Atwood: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=18030

Jon Atwood: You guys have upset quite a few affiliates with it today

Andy Kostrzewski: are you referring to treffic exchenges

Andy Kostrzewski: traffic exchanges

Jon Atwood: Yes

Jon Atwood: but what you guys have obviously misunderstood is that these affiliates are sending targeted traffic to Aweber

Jon Atwood: NOT generic Traffic Exchange traffic

Jon Atwood: Jon Olson is sending traffic to his affiliate link on his LIST BUILDING TUTORIAL page

Jon Atwood: not by adding his URL into rotation on the exchange

Jon Atwood: I have a feeling this process was automated and a mistake has been made

Andy Kostrzewski: those methods most generate generic traffic and bogus addresses so we do not allow them

Jon Atwood: Andy, you're obviously misunderstanding

Jon Atwood: if the link is on a TUTORIAL page explaining how to build a list

Jon Atwood: HOW is that "generic" traffic??

Jon Atwood: Please explain how linking from a page like this generates bogus addresses and constitutes generic traffic?? http://www.ilovehits.com/tutorials2.html

Andy Kostrzewski: what site do you have this on

Jon Atwood: that is Jon's tutorial on Ilovehits. And yes, ILoveHits IS a traffic exchange

Jon Atwood: but Jon is teaching his members how to build a list the proper way

Jon Atwood: and recommending your service

Jon Atwood: and for whatever reason you guys decided that's against your rules which makes no sense whatsoever

Andy Kostrzewski: basically those sites, and we have been in business for 10+ years, tend to generate traffic that is not targeted and simply does not generate sales or leads that are valid

Jon Atwood: You might want to check the sales of the affiliates whose links you're killing before you assume they don't generate sales. Soren has something like 200 paying customers he's referred to you. Sounds like he's doing something right

Jon Atwood: I'd recommend you have Tom take a look at the thread before there's a mass exodus of Aweber affiliates

Andy Kostrzewski: was there anything else you needed support with at this point ?

Jon Atwood: Apparently not if you're not willing to listen to what I'm asking about

Andy Kostrzewski: We understand what the site provides and how it works as it has not been somehting we have ever permitted for affilaites

Jon Atwood: That's just rediculous. So recommending Aweber in a LIST BUILDING Tutorial is against your affiliate TOS?

Jon Atwood: Please have Tom stop by the forum because I honestly need to hear that from him before I can believe that Aweber doesn't want targeted referrals

Andy Kostrzewski: That is the point Jon, those are generally not targeted. That is what we are trying to get across at this point

Jon Atwood: It's laughable to think that you honestly can say that a referral sent from a TUTORIAL on HOW TO BUILD A LIST is not targeted

Andy Kostrzewski: I am sorry you feel that way. Feel free to contact us here if you have any further questions

Jon Atwood: No thanks. I'd rather not be talked to in circles by someone that obviously doesn't understand internet marketing. I'll just find a company that doesn't take money out of their affiliates pockets. Thanks anyways

Jon Atwood: Please pass this on to Tom as I certainly will
