Welcome to the newest issue of Hit Exchange News!

I've been invovled in some recent dicussions with members in the forums and via e-mail concerning the general 'effectiveness' of hit exchange advertising.

While I will, and always be a 'fan favorite' of the exchanges, some issue have come up that I think are important to discuss. As you know, you only get to make an impression for 15 seconds (to a max. of 30 seconds) so sometimes it's hard to get 'your point across' to the viewer!

I have put together a little list that should help some of you get the most from you exchange advertising, some of it has been discussed before but this list can be copied and printed out for quick reference if you ever feel like you need a tip or two =)

1. Be original!
There's hundreds of affiliate programs out there and hundreds of other online businesses that rely on their members promoting a similar URL. Try to be unique. A good idea is to create a website specifically designed for use in the exchanges. This does NOT require hundreds of man hours behind the keyboard or complicated programming skills, a simple HTML page will do.

Tip: Think about when you surf an exchange, what websites stick out the most? What catches your eye and attention?

2. E-mail capture!
Remember, you only get a few seconds to make an impression. Chances are you won't sell your brand new product to a hit exchange user on the first try, so it's VITAL that you capture an e-mail address so that you can contact that viewer at a later date. The old saying that states it takes 4-7 times for a website to truly make an impression holds so much truth. Not only will you be creating a relationship with a potential customer you will be building your contact list, and that is worth a hundred times more than any product!

3. Add value!
If you want to capture someone's e-mail address, you are going to have to give up the goods, sort to speak. Instead of saying, hey sign up for my free marketing newsletter, try adding a free e-book in exchange for their email address. If not an e-book, then perhaps a neat little trick or tip you have found works for your online advertising. People will not just give away e-mail addresses, so by adding value to your website, you will impress your viewer and start off the relationship on the right foot!

4. K.I.S.S.
Keep it SOOOooooo simple (or the other term they use *lol*) Again, I sound like a broken record but you only get a few seconds to make an impression. If you do choose to create a special page for hit exchange advertising, make sure it loads quickly and does not have too many graphics on it that will slow it down even more. A large percentage of internet users are on dial-up access and when an incredible, deisgner's delight flash presentation begins to load, that user is proboubly already clicking for the next site. Keep it simple and keep it clean!

It's important to remember that these are just suggestions. I have found success using both special pages and a normal affiliate website. Try a combination of both and see what works best for you. It's also a very good idea to use a rotator if you plan on creating different pages, this way you can easily switch between websites and change URL's a lot easier. There's a few rotators out there but hands down the best rotator on the market is Page Swirl. It loads very quickly, does not have any headers and is very reliable PLUS it's 100% free!

These are just a few suggestions that have helped me out a great deal. Come up with a unique game plan and try new things. Don't be afraid to go out on a limb, you may be VERY pleased with the results!

• 1heluva Bye Bye! I'm sure Vegas had this as a sure bet but the most talked about hit exchange ever has shut it's doors for good. The Srock's have apparently listened to the warnings from their home state's law and ended 1heluva.com. Again, while this was an illegal operation, it was a very good hit exchange. Couple this with the legal battles and 90210 drama and we're in for an interesting few months! Stay tuned!

• NothingButTraffic has been re-launched. However, if you were a previous member you will have to sign up again. Ben Marroquin, the owner, went through hell and back with his previous host and has straightened everything out. Welcome back NBT!

• Start Xchange, one of the oldest hit exchanges online has totally re-designed their site. The site is very clean and has some brand new features. One thing is that you must re-enter your URLs in the new system, which allows you to assign specific percentages to each URL. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks =)

• Jon's taking a vacation (sort of)! I will be away from the net starting on September 10th until the 17th. I have to drive across the country and help some family members move household. There will be no H.E.N. on September 11th and the following Thrusday's issue may be a bit delayed. I try to release every issue on time but I may be a little late getting in on Wednesday night. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me but if I do not respond for a while, this is the reason. Sorry folks, I promise this will be the only vacation for...3 more years! =)
